DESCRIPTION:
Classification:
Truck Driver, Over the Road
Principal Function
-
To drive
intercity truck from home terminal to distant point(s) and return.
Duties
-
Inspect
vehicle and required parts and accessories to determine safe operating
condition prior to departure on trip.
-
Check
shipping papers to determine nature of load and any special hazards,
and when feasible, to check load, itself, and methods of securing it.
-
Operate
vehicle in compliance with company rules and all applicable laws and
regulations, and in accordance with accepted principals of safe
driving.

Deliver
freight to consignees.
-
Pick up
freight from shippers.
-
Load and
unload freight as required.
-
Collect
freight charges as instructed.
-
Perform
other related work as required.
Miscellaneous Responsibilities
-
Report
all accidents involving driver or company equipment.
-
Report
highway safety hazards noted en route.
-
Maintain
trip records as required.
-
Maintain
records required for compliance with State and Federal regulations,
including driver's logs, record of fuel purchases, mileage records,
etc...
-
Properly
use and care for all equipment assigned to the driver for the
performance of his or her duties.
-
Promptly
report any delays due to breakdown, weather or traffic conditions, or
other emergency, or in the event of irregularities relating to pickup
or delivery of cargo.
Job
Restrictions
-
Weight
lifting up to 75 lbs occasionally.

Sitting.
It may be necessary to sit without stopping for 2 - 6 hours dependent
upon scheduling.

Running
a load late is not acceptable.
